Cold Brew
What Is Cold Brewed Coffee?
There are many ways to make cold brew coffee, but we at The Santa Barbara Roasting Company believe there is only one right way. And that is brewing coffee grounds for a very long time (24 hours) & at really cold temperatures (40º degrees).
Why Brew It Cold?
Most cold coffees are brewed hot and then iced or refrigerated, doing that can make for a very sharp and sour taste. The reason we brew it cold is to dramatically slow down the extraction process the coffee goes through. This ultimately results in a much smoother, full bodied & chocolate flavor.
Why Is It Brewed For So Long?
Due to the fact that the coffee brews at such cold temperatures it gives the coffee the necessary time to extract the sweetest flavor without the acidity.
Is There More Caffeine?
Sadly, No. Cold brewing coffee extracts only half the amount of caffeine as hot coffee. BUT, because we use about twice as much coffee to make our Cold Brew, it ends up equaling about the same amount of caffeine as a normal cup of coffee.
